The three visit lengths

Quick visit (15–20 min): Walk through the Senbon Torii tunnel near the base, take photos, leave. Famous, but shallow.

Standard visit (1–1.5 h): Climb to Yotsutsuji viewpoint (30–40 min up), enjoy the panorama of southern Kyoto, descend (30–40 min down). This is what most people do, and it’s the right balance.

Full hike (2–3 h): Do the entire loop to the summit and back. Quieter, more meditative, sees the full shrine grounds.

Add 30–60 minutes if you rest, linger for photos, or visit the tea houses on the way.
